JOINT RESOLUTION
Of the
Halifax – Town Council of
Whereas, the citizens of Halifax County, the Town of Halifax, and the Town of South Boston want and deserve access to fresh water for good health, economic sustenance, and recreational opportunities; and
Whereas, these citizens are lucky to live within the

Whereas, there is now proposed a water withdrawal and intra-basin transfer by the City of Roxboro and adjacent counties that will bypass a 30 mile section of the Dan River that flows through the heart of this community; and
Whereas, said bypass will reduce water supplies available to serve existing and future residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and recreational uses within this community; and
Whereas, this community and its governmental agencies are already being hindered in their plans to provide for improved water and wastewater services to their citizens and businesses by introduction of this proposal; and
Whereas, the impact of this proposed withdrawal can be mitigated by simply returning the treated wastewater from this withdrawal back into the
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, on this 20th day of April 2009, that we the undersigned communities are united in our opposition to the intra-basin transfer of water as proposed by the City of
