Dutch energy supplier Atoomstroom has been told by the Dutch advertising authority to change adverts claiming that nuclear power is clean, according to environmental campaign group Greenpeace.

Greenpeace says the advertising authority ruled that nuclear power could not be called clean because all steps in the production chain cause pollution and the process creates long-lasting nuclear waste.

But the authority rejected Greenpeace's complaint about Atomstroom's claim that nuclear energy is CO2 free.

Atoomstroom launched on the Dutch market in October 2008, claiming to be the first in the world to supply its customers 100% nuclear power.
