From PittCo. Supervisor Marshall Ecker...

From Marshall Ecker's Column in the Chatham Star-Tribune:

At the Feb. 2 board meeting, one member of the board pulled the "uranium mining study" from the agenda. Many citizens were very upset at that decision, which passed in a 4-3 vote. I can't understand why one supervisor wants to pull another supervisor's item from the agenda without hearing and discussing what that issue is about. With that action, we were not able to address several items that were added to the agenda. The uranium mining study resolution was back on the Feb.17 agenda, but it was not to the specifications of Mr. Davis, who handed out his draft of the resolution, which contained more information than what was in the board packet. Even a substitute motion to combine the two resolutions was made. After much back-and-forth discussion and some comments from citizens, whom the chairman said were out of order, the substitute motion failed, and the vote on Mr. Davis' resolution passed 7-0.

Two more items about uranium and mining were presented to the board for consideration, dealing with changing the county's Zoning Ordinance Chapter 35 and to enforce and update the county's mineral tax. I tried to have this referred to the Legislative Committee. The chairman said he would take care of this and have it referred to that committee himself. So far, I haven't heard from him. I'm the chairman of the Legislative Committee. I will be holding a Legislative Committee meeting on March 2 at 3 p.m. to go over the Zoning Ordinance Chapter 35 and the Virginia Codes on Mineral Tax and Collections.
