Pittsylvania County Passes Uranium Mining Resolution

From WSET-TV (emphasis original):

Pittsylvania Co., VA -

Pittsylvania County Supervisors unanimously approved a Uranium Mining Resolution Tuesday night, asking the Coal and Energy Commission's Study Group to more specifically study the health implications of mining. The new resolution asks the commission to ensure that "no damage or harm will be done to Pittsylvania County, its businesses, institutions, environment and its citizens by uranium mining."

Supervisor Hank Davis says he wants the study to be more specific than a cost benefit analysis or simply accepting minimal damages.

Hank Davis, Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors - "There's far more to mining than just pure mining safety. I'm as much worried about the socio-economic aspects of it as I am about the safety of mining."

We spoke with a representative at Virginia Uranium Incorporated. He says they're happy the study is still on track and happy "...an open and healthy debate on the issue continues. I think the independent scientific process that the Coal and Energy Commission follows is a very beneficial process."
