Flood Richmond Times-Dispatch with Letters and Editorials!

From Shireen Parsons, CELDF's Community Organizer in VA and Southside:

Please -- FLOOD the Richmond Times-Dis[patch] with letters and op-ed pieces in response to the awful article below!!

"Splits the County"???
A handful of individuals who would profit from uranium mining vs. a citizen majority adamantly opposed to it is not a "split"!

Residents "fear" that uranium mining "would pollute the groundwater and streams with uranium and choke the air with harmful residue"??
That's not a "fear" -- that's an understanding of the reality of uranium mining. It ALWAYS pollutes the soil, water and air!

Byron is "thinking about bugging out"?
I don't believe Byron put it that way -- he knows he's not gonna sit there and suck dust!

VUI "has agreed to merge with a Canadian mining company"??
VUI is wholly owned by Canadian corporations!

"Patrick Wales, a Danville native and geologist for Virginia Uranium, said landowners' fears are overblown"?
Please, Richmond Times-Dis[patch], show us one uranium mine, anywhere in the world, that hasn't contaminated the environment and poisoned every living thing!

"Opponents such as Lovelace and Motley contend that an objective study will bear out their fears."
But we know it won't be an objective study
!

And why is there no mention of the Halifax Anti-Mining and Corporate Bodily Trespass Ordinance, or the fact that the petition effort is about driving that ordinance into municipalities that are downstream/downwind from the proposed mine site??

As always, Shireen makes excellent points and her recommendation to deluge the Times-Dispatch with letters is timely and more than appropriate.
