Earthquake Recorded in Roankoe This Morning

ROANOKE, Va. - Some western Virginia residents felt a mild earthquake [today].

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 2.6 magnitude earthquake shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday, according to the National Earthquake Information Center. The epicenter was about 4 miles west-southwest of Roanoke, in the Cave Spring area.

No damage or injuries have been reported. Earthquakes of this intensity usually do not cause much damage. Sometimes called micro-earthquakes, they often are only detected by seismographs and not felt by people.
